Colchicine is an unapproved drug that was grandfathered in by the FDA as safe and effective. URL Pharma did the first actual clinical trials (costs lots of money) for the two conditions and got approval for their drug, Colchrys for these two conditions.
Colchrys is ONLY colchicine. Everything else on the market is a combination of colchicine and probenecid, so that's what you've probably been taking.
From the [email protected] site (http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/…../index.cfm) , if you enter colchicine, you can see the products and the companies. Currently, it looks like Watson, Ivax/Teva and Concord Labs are still making and marketing the dual product.
URL is the only firm approved for only colchicine.
I will continue to ask for her guidance as to how to deal with this, and who we can contact and demand some sense be made of the price point set by Pharma.

There has long been a product on the market called Colbenemid, a large pill that combined probenecid and cochicine. I think your cousin is confused.

The FDA has clearly made a mistake here, and we need to unite in getting that decision overturned. It is important because (as far as I know) it is the first instance of a generic being given exclusive manufacturing rights. If this is allowed to go forward, who knows where it will end.
We must find ways to overturn that decision, but in the meantime, people need an effective source of affordable colchicine.
That is what this part of the forum is for. There are plenty of other places here to discuss the merits or otherwise of the FDA decision.
Please keep this forum for discussing supplies of quality assured colchicine delivered to US addresses.
